Blog Description

Welcome to the Rowan Family Blog! I finally gave in and decided to make one so that it would be easier for family and friends to keep up with little Miss Callie and now little Miss Hailey! I hope to keep a good record of the happenings in their lives and the joys that come with being a family. God has truly blessed us with our girls and we are so excited to be parents to them and Chile!

More please!

We are still working with Callie on sign language, and within the last week or two she has learned please! Its too cute! Here is a video of her eating breakfast and using her manners! It's so awesome to see her sign more and then please right after. She is learning so many new things right now! It seems like everyday she learns something pretty big. She is getting a little more brave with walking these days. She walks from the couch to the other side of the room without any trouble unless there is a toy in the way. I give her about 2 weeks before she is all over the place. She is such a blessing and I am so thankful that God gave her to us! Hope you enjoy the video!
And here are a few random pictures I took of a Texas Sunset at my Mom's.... I miss the sunsets here so much! How can you look at them and not get a glimpse of how powerful our creator is? One last set of pictures... this is just too cute not to share! This is Callie's latest trick... she thinks it is hilarious!

Callie's first trip to Chuck E Cheese's

Well Grandma surprised Callie and I by taking us out to lunch at Chuck E Cheese's today! We had a blast. Callie loved the pizza (of course) and surprisingly, she liked Chuck E Cheese the mouse! She even patted him on the hand. It was sooo funny. I thought for sure that she would be nervous and scared, but she smiled and even posed for a picture. It sure was fun spending time with Grandma! Callie rode several of the rides and even helped Mommy and Grandma play some games! All in all Callie earned 58 tickets... not too shabby. There were not too many options in that category for prizes but we ended up with a spinning plastic top.... that is probably worth 10 cents. Haha! But who cares, it was fun! Just to clarify, the top cost 60 tickets... so one of Debbie's co-workers who happened to be there with her kids spotted us the extra two.... haha. Well the pictures are a little dark but I thought I would post them anyway! Thanks again Grandma we sure had fun!
Pizza = YUM!
Callie loved the Teletubbies ride!
Aw... Callie and Barney.

Callie's 1 year appointment goes well!

Callie had her 1 year check up and everything went pretty well! She is as healthy as she can be and is still growing right on track! Callie weighed 20 pounds and 7 ounces and was 29.5" long. She was in the 50th percentile for weight and the 75th for height. The doctor is still saying it looks like we will have a tall little girl. She was very pleased with Callie development and said that everything looked great. The only part that was not great was that they had to draw blood for a standard check. Callie was not a fan of this. I thought we would have a needle free day because I had already taken her in for her shots a week earlier... Wrong!!! Of course, the poor lady trying to do it didn't get it on the first try. They blew through the vein and Callie was very upset. Luckily Matt was there with me because I started tearing up and needed a break. So Matt held Callie while they got a more experienced person, and luckily she got it on her first try. It's so hard to watch your baby cry like that... I guess that's why I ended up crying too! She has a huge bruise on her arm, but it doesn't seem to bother her. Overall we are just glad that Callie is a healthy little girl! We sure do love her! Oh, and I added some random pictures from the last few weeks!

She looks quite proud of herself don't ya think?

Callie is 1!!! (warning... long post)

Where has the time gone? My sweet "little" baby is one year old! It has been such a wonderful year and I am so thankful that God chose us to be her parents. She has changed so much in one short year, and it has been so much fun.
I think back to those long, long nights when little Callie was brand new. I just knew that she would NEVER sleep all the way through the night. Yes, other people told me that she would, and I saw plenty of other parents who had sleeping children... but I thought that day would never come. Haha! Then I remember thinking, uhhh I have to feed her 10 times a day! It seems like right when I'm finished feeding her its time again! I really thought I would never be able to go to the store again. Now Callie is almost finished with breastfeeding and it makes me a little sad! The freedom will be nice, but I will miss it. Even though being a new parent definitely has its challenges, it is the most amazing and wonderful thing EVER! I simply cannot imagine my life without her! She's just growing up so fast!
At 12 months Callie:
- is standing without holding on to anything else. She attempts a few steps but isn't quite there yet! I know that it wont be long though, because she gets more and more brave everyday!
- is sleeping 11 hours at night! (Yes!!!!) She takes two naps a day totaling about 3 hours. She IS a good sleeper after all.... haha!
- loves her books more than anything! She can point to several objects when we ask her to (balloon, cat, dog, nose, eyes, moon, cow)
- is also very good at finding her belly button! It is the cutest thing ever. I will have to take a video and post it. She raises her shirt and then pulls her big belly up so that she can see it, and then smiles with pride when she finds it!
- loves walking/running around the house with her little push toys!
- unfortunately still LOVES Chile's dog food....
- is eating 100% table food (except for one morning milk feeding). She eats everything that we do and is starting to show some serious preference... she definitely spits out peas, corn, and green beans! Oh dear... She is still trying to get used to cows milk also.... shes not too sure yet.
- Callie also has figured out how to turn a book around so that it is facing the correct way. Even though its a small thing its just really fun to watch her turn a book over and rotate it so that it is the right way! She is just learning sooo much right now.
- She loves to chase Chile around the house and fight him for his toys. Chile is very good with Callie and lets her!
- Callie follows simple directions too. For example I can say "Callie go get a book please" and off she goes!
- Callie's vocabulary consists of: Mama, Dada, Baba, Hi, and Yea! :) I think she is working on puppy... its sounds like puh puh. :)
The list could go on and on. But that's all that I can think of right now! Well for Callie's first Birthday we had a fun little party here at the house. It was lots of fun! She was so excited to open presents and try some cake! Callie even got to eat pizza! We had some of our good friends and their kids come over to celebrate! And of course Callie was soooooo excited that Grammie came all the way here to celebrate! Callie sure is lucky to have such a sweet Grammie! Callie got lots of birthday cards and presents in the mail from family and friends! She told me to tell you all "Thank you"! :)
Well Callie Michelle, you are a beautiful little girl, inside and out. Mommy and Daddy are so blessed to have you! It is so much fun to watch you grow and develop your own personality. Always remember that Mommy and Daddy love you as big as the sky! We are so proud of you!

Back at home!

We had such a great time in Texas, but it sure is good to be home! Callie and Chile did great in the car much to our surprise! Since we've been home we celebrated Matt's 27th birthday! Yikes! I can't believe that he's 27! Seems like only yesterday that we were just getting our driver's license! We had a good little family celebration for Matt's birthday, and we also took some time to reminisce about my Dad. I think it is so awesome that they shared the same birthday! We grilled out some turkey burgers and brats and it was gooood! Instead of a birthday cake, I got Matt some cupcakes from a Bakery close by. It was fun to try a bunch of weird flavors! I really liked the Maple Bacon cupcake to my surprise! We even let Callie have her first bite of cupcake. We thought it would be a good little preview for her birthday coming up next month! She like the cupcake, but we didn't give her any icing, so I'm sure she'll like it more when she can dig into a cake!
Callie is such a busy bee these days! She is literally ALL over the place! Callie's main goal in life right now is to get her hands on some dog food! Any chance that she gets she is crawling as fast as she can toward it. Our house has a pretty open floor plan and it makes it impossible to keep her in one room. She pretty much had free reign over the whole downstairs. I'm still trying to think of a way to section her off in the living room.... but that would take some really long gates!
Callie is done with baby food now. She much prefers table food. She especially loves bananas. The other day I was sharing a banana with her and Chile, and as soon as it was gone I told her all done. She then throws herself to the floor in pure outrage! Haha. She loves bananas! Callie is still doing great with her signing. She signs "more" and "all done" pretty consistently now! Callie is getting better with walking with assistance. She really likes to push her walker toys around. More and more she lets go of things for a few seconds. Her balance is getting much better, and I know it wont be long until she starts walking. Her favorite word right now is Dada! She says it all the time! She also likes "hi" and "uh-oh"! She really only says Mama when she's tired. Booo!! Oh well, I know she will say it more soon enough! I love seeing her face when Matt gets home from work. She gets a huge smile on her face and says Dada while frantically waving at him. It is pure sweetness! Well here are some pictures from the past few weeks! Hope you enjoy. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Not too sure at first, but she loved it after a few seconds!

Trip to Fort Worth Zoo!

Well while we were in Texas we thought it would be fun to take Callie to the zoo. Grammie and Aunt Lindsey took the day off so that we could all take Callie to the Fort Worth Zoo. It was so much fun! I loved watching Callie discover all of the animals. She definitely showed a lot of interest. I can't wait to take her back when she is a little older! Callie really loved the lions, tigers, leopards... anything that resembled a kitty cat! She would point and wave to the animals and say hi! It was precious! One of her other favorites of the day were the turtles. She loved looking at them swimming around! I want to take her to an aquarium because she really seemed to love all of the bright colors. Callie saw giraffes, hippos, monkeys, elephants, flamingos, kangaroos and many fish and bugs! Nothing is better than watching her experience new things. She was a real trooper! It was a long day but she did great! She had an adorable little hat that matched her outfit, but of course she didn't want to keep it on! She pulls off all of her bows and hats nowadays... I can't wait until she lets me put bows in her hair again! Of course it wouldn't be a zoo trip without a stop at the gift shop! Callie got a stuffed animal lion cub and tiger, as well as a Fort Worth Zoo sippy cup and t-shirt! Callie got spoiled by Mommy and Grammie... Oh Well! What else is new?! Well here are some pictures from our outing, hope you enjoy!
